Eligibility
All male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of the American Legion, and such male descendants of veterans who died in service during World War I, World War II, and Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, and the Persian Gulf War, during the delimiting periods set forth in Article IV, Section 1 (War Eras see below), of the National Constitution of The American Legion, or who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service, shall be eligible for membership in the Sons of the American Legion.
War Eras
- April 6, 1917 - Nov. 11, 1918 (World War I)
- Dec. 7, 1941 - Aug. 15, 1945 Merchant Marines (only eligibility)
- Dec. 7, 1941 - Dec. 31, 1946 (World War II) June 25, 1950 - Jan. 31, 1955 (Korean War)
- Feb. 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)
- Aug. 24, 1982 - July 31, 1984 (Grenada/Lebanon)
- Dec. 20, 1989 - Jan. 31, 1990 (Panama)
- Aug. 2, 1990 to today

1. Complete the New Application Form (follow the link below) and mail it to the address on the form along with the annual membership fee of $20. If you were contacted by a unit recruiter, you may also give the form and fee to your recruiter for processing. We prefer you complete this pdf form because it's the quickest way for us to process your membership.
2. Fill out the Form Below. If you don't have Acrobat Reader and can't download it, you should use the following form. We will contact you to sign the membership form and collect your $20 membership fee.
